Picking environmentally friendly finishes for your cabinetry makes a significant difference in the emissions of VOC's into your living environment. VOC’s are chemicals that react under ambient conditions, such as sunlight, to produce smog.
In regards to environmentally friendly finishes an important consideration as a consumer is the experience of the finisher. Low VOC finishes often take quite a bit of extra work to apply and a skill set that is very different from the application of conventional finishes. Many manufacturers are not prepared for this process. I recommend doing your research to find a finisher who is experienced with using green products.
